To restore the involved part, the missing tissue is replaced by another tissue taken from somewhere else in the body and has the same characteristics. This tissue is transplanted in the head and neck area and shaped to replace the missing tissue. In addition to preserving facial form, reconstruction is critical to restore function like swallowing and speech, prevent infection and leakage of saliva to the neck, and to separate facial cavities like the eyes, nose and oral cavity.
